A New Documentary Explores the Life of Comics Pioneer Denis Kitchen

"Oddly Compelling"

There’s currently a Kickstarter campaign underway for the documentary Oddly Compelling: The Denis Kitchen Story. Among the incentives for this project are — as you might guess — some actual comics. Specifically, in 1972 Kitchen drew the cover for a comic which otherwise didn’t exist, titled The Giant Penis That Invaded New York. (The cover is exactly what you think it is.)

Now, a host of comics creators have offered their own spin on that, creating new work to accomapny the cover — including Kitchen himself, as well as Gary Hallgren, Noah Van Sciver, Gideon Kendall, Leda Zawaki, Hilary Barta, Chris Bango, and Anja Perkuhn.

Below, you can see the trailer for the documentary — as well as contributions from Noah Van Sciver and Hilary Barta. (And, yes, this is extremely NSFW.)
