Once upon a time, I found myself blogging a lot about James Franco. I don’t know if it was because I respected his ability to play a good stoner or if I harbored a secret crush on the guy, but his name used to appear on this blog quite ofter. Glad to have him back: what’s on your bedside table right now? JF – I am in school so most of my reading is for school. Some of my recent […]
Diane Williams of Noon Strikes a Badass Editor Pose
But that’s not all I learned in her interview with James Yeh over at The Faster Times: THE FASTER TIMES: A fellow editor once told me that my decision to start a literary magazine was going to “cost me at least one book.” Do you find this to be true? Are you, in a sense, sacrificing work authored by Diane Williams for work edited by Diane Williams? DIANE WILLIAMS: No. It’s the other way around. A life entirely devoted to […]
Glenn Danzig Reads on the Road
Are you able to read on tour? Meaning, can you concentrate even with other people’s noise? I get my own back area where people stay away from me. [laughs] I’m always reading or going to bookstores. When everyone else is farting around in the daytime, I’m at bookstores. (Via Vice interview)
Jews Reading Books
Tomorrow night I’ll be reading alongside Joshua Cohen and Melissa Broder at the Candlestick Reading Series at Pete’s Candy Store in Brooklyn. I’m about 300 pages into Cohen’s book WITZ and love just about anything Broder says or does, so it’s pretty fair to say that I’m psyched about this.
Harold Bloom “Fail”
Who am I to take on Harold Bloom? Well, I am also an American Jew. My four grandparents were not murdered in the Shoah, but my Grandma Clara’s entire family back in a town called Potok Zloty near Lvov were, so I guess I have a right to speak on the Jewish question too. I’m sorry to say that the old lion has gone soft. This is a poor article, beneath the standards of the New York Times. (Lit Kicks) […]
Syd Barrett Sunday
The Guardian reviewed a Syd Barrett book. I guess this is a perfect reason to put up a bunch of Syd Barrett videos on a lazy Sunday. And for good measure, a Television Personalities song about the late Mr. Barrett:
Weekend Bites: Less Than Zero Sequel has Less Than Awesome Cover, Tom Waits Does Shakespeare, Daniel Nester Giving Advice, and More
I agree with one HTMLGIANT commenter: the cover to the Less Than Zero sequel, Imperial Bedrooms, is horrible. Tom Waits to do Shakespeare. I’m just going to call it: the On the Road adaptation will suck. Getting around to reading everything Ralph Ellison is a task Troy Patterson at Slate is not up to. Daniel Nester gives tips for aspiring writers. Michael Schaub reviews Ten Walks/Two Talks by Jon Cotner and Andy Fitch at Bookslut. Check out our review of […]
