Ned Raggett sat down with a chat with John Darnielle for the OC Weekly. Many things are discussed, from the sequencing of the Mountain Goats’ latest album All Eternals Deck to cassette-only releases to on-the-fly recipes.

And then came a question about what Darnielle is reading; part of his answer follows:

I’m reading Gogol! That kind of answers your question. This has been my position for ages, which I would address in songs – I don’t consider a historical moment unique. People will argue that technological changes make this time unique but all that stuff is window dressing.
