Welcome to Brooklyn, Martin Amis

Posted by Tobias Carroll

Via Maud Newton’s Twitter feed comes this James Wolcott piece, in which it is revealed that…well, let’s quote from the Independent piece that Wolcott links:

It was then reported that [Amis] and his American-born wife, the novelist Isabel Fonseca, had bought a $2.5m (£1.6m) mansion in Cobble Hill, an exclusive area of Brooklyn, keenly sought after for its brownstones, park, bars and restaurants.

The logical endpoint of this? Well, if nothing else, you may begin seeing the phrase “Brooklyn’s Martin Amis” in these pages. And, perhaps, some rallying behind the idea of a The Pregnant Widow paperback release party at WORD, Greenlight, or BookCourt.

  1. Ugh, as it Brooklyn weren’t cool enough already.
    Guess who lives in LA!
    No one.
    Oh wait, Mona Simpson.
    That’s all.
    No one else.

  2. Amis has referred to American novelist Jay McInerney, and I wonder if he read McInerney’s profile of Mick Jagger in ESQUIRE where McInerney was climbing some stairs inside a Manhattan nightclub when two tackily dressed women spun around at the sight of Jagger. McInerney said of the two women, “They had ‘outer borough’ written all over them.”
