Where International Aid and Author Models Converge

Let’s say you’re looking to donate some money to a good cause–Libraries Without Borders, for instance. They’re involved with setting up portable libraries for immigrant populations in Europe, among other projects, and are working “to address the structural causes of economic and human under-development.” They’ve teamed with Riverhead Books to offer an incentive to donate in the next few weeks: if you make a donation of over $250 in the month of June, you’ll receive a 3-D printed model of one of nine authors. The lineup is a solid one: Junot Díaz (pictured above), Marlon James, Khaled Hosseini, Elizabeth Gilbert, Lauren Groff, Nick Hornby, Emma Straub, Anne Lamott, and Dan Pink. So if the combination of helping out an international aid organization and having a model of your favorite author on your desktop keeping an eye on things is an appealing one–and, really, why wouldn’t it be?–this seems like a fine combination.
